Field Care Guide

Once the animal is no longer alive, it begins to deteriorate, and the flesh will start to rot. Bacteria will start to grow. Spoilage of the flesh can ruin your plans for a trophy mount, European mount, life-size mount, or even an animal skin rug.

Freezing the animal will help preserve it and stop bacteria growth. Additionally, if the animal has fleas or other such pests, freezing it kills these things too.

After harvesting and recovering an animal use these steps to prepare your animal for the highest quality taxidermy.

Field Care Caping Preferred

1. Use your preferred of field dressing. Do not cut above the sternum.
2. Do not drag the animal. Utilize a tarp, ATV or carrying method. Dragging an animal burns hair off.
3. Follow your local and state regulations for tagging your animal.
4. Deliver to CS Taxidermy for caping or follow the step-by-step instructions here. Bring plastic trash bags or charge will occur

Take time and make perfect for the beautiful mount.
